Chelsea women keep quadruple dream alive with late FA Cup semi-final win over Liverpool
It wasn’t perfect, but it was classic Chelsea - gritty, relentless, and ruthless when it mattered most.
Their 2-1 comeback win over Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-finals on Saturday, April 12, proves the fight for the quadruple is well and truly alive.
Chelsea dominated possession from the off but were stunned in the 21st minute when Liverpool's Olivia Smith fired the visitors ahead with a clinical finish against the run of play.
For a moment, it felt like a repeat of last season’s semi-final heartbreak could be on the cards. But this Chelsea side, even in transition post-Hayes, has an elite mentality baked into its DNA.
Just before halftime, Erin Cuthbert - one of Chelsea’s most consistent performers - found the equaliser after some brilliant work down the flank from Sjoeke Nüsken and Sandi Baltimore.
The second half was a war of attrition. Liverpool dug deep, defending wave after wave of pressure, while Chelsea turned to the bench in search of inspiration.
In the dying seconds, up stepped Aggie Beever-Jones. The academy graduate, who has grown into a reliable impact player, powered home a dramatic header from Baltimore’s pinpoint cross in the 94th minute to send Kingsmeadow into a frenzy.
With the Conti Cup already won, Chelsea now have a return to Wembley locked in.
They’ll face either Manchester United or Manchester City in the final - and with the WSL and UWCL still within reach, Sonia Bompastor’s Blues aren’t just surviving the post-Hayes era. They’re thriving in it.
