F1 news: Lewis Hamilton gears up for Ferrari debut at the Australian Grand Prix

Sports News Blitz brings you the latest from the world of Formula 1, and few stories are as captivating as Lewis Hamilton’s highly anticipated debut for Ferrari.

F1 fanatic Noah Ngcobo breaks down what to expect as the seven-time world champion takes on a new challenge with the Scuderia.

A new era begins in Melbourne

As the 2025 F1 season kicks off with the highly anticipated Australian Grand Prix, all eyes are on F1’s most decorated champion, Hamilton as he prepares to make his debut for Ferrari.

The British driver’s decision to leave Mercedes after 12 seasons sent shockwaves through the motorsport world, and now, as he dons the iconic red suit, the pressure is on - but if you ask Hamilton, pressure is the last thing on his mind.

Ice-Cool and ready to race

Speaking ahead of the season opener in Melbourne, Hamilton exuded confidence and calmness, dismissing any notion that he feels external pressure.

“I don’t feel the pressure. The outside pressure is non-existent for me,” he stated. “The pressure is from within and what I want to achieve. I’m not here to prove anything to anybody.”

His words reflect a veteran driver who has been at the top of the sport for over a decade and understands exactly what it takes to succeed.

“Hamilton has already set high expectations for himself as he transitions into a new team, acknowledging that while Ferrari is a powerhouse, success will not come easy.

“I’m under no assumptions that it will be easy. It is not. I’m back at square one,” he admitted.

“I’ve been at the factory four days a week, giving absolutely everything to training, pushing my mind and body further than ever before.”

Hamilton’s dedication is evident as he immerses himself in Ferrari’s culture and gets to grips with a car powered by Ferrari’s engine - a significant change after spending his entire Formula 1 career with Mercedes power units.

He understands that there is a learning curve ahead, emphasising the importance of building trust and relationships within the team.

A stacked field and a new challenge

The 2025 season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent memory, with Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes all in strong contention.

Hamilton recognises the challenge but remains optimistic. “It looks like it is going to be close,” he noted, highlighting the battle at the front of the grid.

Despite his extensive experience, the seven-time world champion acknowledges that there is still work to be done to fully adapt to his new surroundings.

“The sooner you can perform to a higher level, the better, but inevitably there is a transition period and a foundation that needs to be built,” he said. “Respect is given, but trust is something built over time.”

A dynamic partnership with Leclerc

Hamilton joins Ferrari alongside Charles Leclerc, who has been with the team since 2019.

The Monegasque driver, often seen as the future of Ferrari, has been quick to welcome Hamilton, appreciating his work ethic and approach.

“He is very much Mr. Ferrari, and it has been really cool to work alongside him,” Hamilton said.

Leclerc, however, played down any notion that he is the face of Ferrari, emphasising that the team is bigger than any one driver.

“There is no place for one particular driver in Ferrari. Ferrari is bigger than any drivers. That’s what makes Ferrari so special,” he explained.

And while much of the media attention is currently on Hamilton, Leclerc remains focused on his own ambitions.

The road ahead

For Hamilton, the move to Ferrari is about more than just a new chapter - it’s about chasing history.

With seven world titles to his name, he has his sights set on a record-breaking eighth championship.

But he is under no illusions about the difficulty of that challenge. “I have had some not-so-spectacular years, and I am trying to make sure I have a better one,” he admitted.

As the lights go out in Melbourne, the world will be watching to see how the former Mercedes star fares in his first race for the Scuderia.

One thing is certain - his arrival has reignited Ferrari’s championship hopes, and the 2025 season is set to be an electrifying battle at the top of the grid.
