A historical moment
FIFA recently announced the 2035 Women’s World Cup would be awarded to a nation from either Europe or Africa.
England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales are set to submit a joint bid to host in 2035.
If successful, this would be the UK’s first time hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup, and the first global football tournament held on UK turf since the Men’s World Cup in 1966.
A boost from the Euros' triumph
Following England’s incredibly triumphant hosting of the Women’s Euros in 2022, home nations have teamed up and are hoping to secure the 2035 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
England has proved it is more than capable of hosting major events, as the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 attracted record-breaking viewers, attendances, and media engagements.
The Euros tournament featured a sold out, record-breaking 87,192 attendees at the final, the highest of any European Championship finals match.
Over 416,000 new women’s football opportunities were created in England following the 2022 tournament, inspiring a whole new generation of youth players.
It also had significant financial benefits, with an £81m boost in economic activity, another impressive stat.
The success of the 2022 UEFA Euros is an indication of what the 2035 World Cup could bring if hosted by the UK - broken records, creating new opportunities, and strengthening the legacy of women’s football.
