Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry moves past Charles Barkley on NBA all-time scoring list

On an unforgettable night, Steph Curry moved up to 30th on the all-time list of NBA points scorers, surpassing Hall of Famer Charles Barkley in the process.

The 36-year-old scored 27 points as the Golden State Warriors claimed a hard-fought 118-112 victory over the Boston Celtics at TD Garden to pick up their fifth straight win.

Curry now has 23,747 career NBA points to his name.

Sports News Blitz’s Noah Ngcobo considers the significance of the milestone and looks back at the point guard’s illustrious career.

Curry continues to impress despite critics

The achievement holds extra significance for Curry considering Barkley has long been a vocal critic of the Warriors and their star guard. Indeed, Barkley predicted a "mediocre" season for Golden State this year but has seen his prediction utterly refuted as Curry continues to prove his elite status on the court.

A four-time NBA Champion, Curry can now add another prize to his collection — holding an individual accomplishment over his long-time detractor.

After missing three games with an injury, Curry had returned earlier in the week to help the Warriors see off the Washington Wizards and set up an impressive 6-1 start to the season.

Next up, Curry will look to continue his climb up the scoring ranks, with DeMar DeRozan of the Sacramento Kings within reach as the next player to surpass on the all-time list.

A legend of the game

Drafted seventh overall by the Warriors in 2009, Curry has spent his entire 16-season career with Golden State, leading them to four championships and reshaping the modern game with his remarkable shooting range and quick-release three-pointers.

While his career averages of 24.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 6.4 assists are noteworthy, Curry’s influence extends far beyond mere statistics. He has, quite simply, revolutionised basketball, inspiring a new generation of players and solidifying his place in history as one of the game’s most transformative players.

As Curry continues to push boundaries and chase more records, his legacy is not only defined by titles or scoring accolades but by the indelible impact he has made on the sport itself. Fans and critics alike can only watch in awe as Curry, ever the trailblazer, cements his place among the NBA’s all-time greats.
