Premier League betting tips: Erling Haaland to score first, Fulham fancied
The Bookie Basher has a big decision to make over a lads’ trip to Benidorm - but while he pontificates, he has come up with some betting tips for the Premier League weekend.
Sports News Blitz’s top-flight tipster thinks in-form goal machine Erling Haaland will torment Chelsea - and reckons there will be home comfort for Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
He also thinks chino-wearing Ruben Amorim will regret ripping into his Red Devils players when Manchester United face Fulham.
January dragging on…and on
How is it still fucking January? Seriously? As I write this it literally feels like January 84th.
If you’ve already messed up on your New Year’s Resolutions, then unlucky.
I’ve kept it simple in 2025 and my resolution is to remain an international fanny magnet and doyen of sports betting for at least another 12 months.
To business then…
Manchester City v Chelsea
There’s Erling Haaland signing a new deal at Manchester City until June 2034 while I’m still not committing to four days in Benidorm for Cheltenham in the lads’ WhatsApp group. Levels.
The Norwegian joined Man City from Dortmund in 2022 and has since scored 113 goals in 128 games for the club.
Astonishing. Astonishing numbers, Astonishing fast-twitch muscle fibres. Astonishing top-knot.
The big fella has five goals in his last five games too so while perhaps a tad unimaginative, there is much to like about the 7/2 on offer with some firms about him scoring first against a Chelsea side who are still very erratic.
Suggested Bet: Haaland to score first at 7/2 (Betfair Sportsbook/Paddy Power)
Crystal Palace v Brentford
Two well-matched teams go at it in London on Sunday.
These two have played seven times in the Premier League and five of those matches ended in a draw.
The Eagles have not lost since that December 21 shellacking at the hands of Arsenal and have looked very good in beating Leicester and West Ham in their last two matches.
Brentford are a decent side, but I fancy the home win here and Jean-Philippe Mateta could just be the difference.
Suggested Bet: Crystal Palace to win & Under 3.5 goals at 21/10 (Betfair/PaddyPower)
Aston Villa v West Ham
It’s not easy being a West Ham fan right now.
Saturday's home defeat by Crystal Palace was met with boos and loads of swearing, but fans surely need to give Graham Potter time?
Crysencio Summerville, Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug are all injured.
Bowen in particular has been a huge miss.
Potter has been at the club two minutes and some fans are already on his case, despite the ink on his contract still being wet.
Dostoevsky said ‘Beauty will save the world’. I say Villa win and both teams score.
Suggested Bet: Aston Villa to win & both teams to score at 9/4 (Skybet)

Fulham v Manchester United
7pm Sunday this one starts so if you have been on the piss on Saturday night, kick-off will coincide with the ‘Sunday scaries’ just about peaking.
Amad Diallo took only 12 minutes to score a hat-trick in Manchester United's 3-1 comeback win against Southampton the other week.
Sadio Mane still holds the record for scoring the fastest Premier League hat-trick, netting three times in two minutes and 56 seconds for Southampton against Aston Villa in 2014/15.
Eerily 2:56 is also the quickest time I’ve ever personally recorded to make a Cheese, Ham and Tomato toastie (with the mandatory sprinkling of Tabasco sauce).
As Matt Le Tissier would probably say, ‘Makes you think’.
Not an easy game to call this.
Fulham have won just one of their last 18 Premier League games against Manchester United.
However, the Red Devils were literally pathetic against Brighton last time out.
The new boss - who wears chinos - has branded them "maybe the worst" United side ever and they are betting outsiders here (bigger than 2/1 in fact).
It's a huge statement that from their manager by the way, and Ruben Amorim is taking a huge psychological punt with those words.
Will the squad be emboldened to go into battle for him or in this era of player power will enough of them totally lose faith in the man who has publicly lost faith in them?
However this unfolds, I simply cannot tip them with a straight face after that Brighton farce. Home win.
Suggested Bet: Fulham to win at 13/10 (Hills/Ladbrokes)
