Sponsorship news: A day full of highs and lows for Horsforth Hawks
The Sports News Blitz-sponsored Horsforth Hawks Red team had a real mixed bag of an afternoon out on the rounders pitch at New Farnley Cricket Club on Sunday.
Taking part in the New Farnley Foxes Rounders Tournament, the Hawks played four games in searing sunshine, winning two games and losing two games.
Here, captain Liv Rumble (who leads the Red team with fellow captain and bowler Liz) gives her review of the team’s performance on the day.
Spring in our step
We arrived at the grounds with bats at the ready and a spring in our step, and that energy translated directly into our opening games.
First up, Halifax Bees were our opponents, and what a statement we made!
Our fielding was rock solid, preventing Halifax from gaining any real momentum around the bases.
Liz's bowling was on fire, making it incredibly difficult for the Bees to connect cleanly with the ball.
An outstanding defensive effort meant we managed to keep the number of rounders scored by the opposition down to an absolute minimum.
In fact, our dominance in the field and with the ball was so complete that we secured a resounding victory after only two bats by our team, and we secured a final score of 7-1.
It was a fantastic display of rounders and left us all ready for more.
Impressive form
Next, we faced the New Farnley Foxes. The Hawks continued their impressive form, showcasing some brilliant batting that saw rounder after rounder being scored.
The Foxes struggled to contain our hitters, and the scoreboard at the final ball showed a decisive 9-4 victory for the Horsforth Hawks’ Red team.
However, the elation of the win was somewhat dampened towards the end of the game when we unfortunately saw our big hitter, Hannah, suffer an injury.
This was a real blow to the team, and the change in dynamic was noticeable as the game concluded.
Two games played, two excellent wins secured.

Shift in momentum
Then came the shift in momentum. Aireborough Belters and Silsden Saxons both came in strong in the afternoon, and perhaps the earlier injury to Hannah had unsettled our team somewhat.
Our team battled on though, and our players managed to catch out a fair few players from the opposition in each of the games, but the opposition’s fielding in both games was very tight, and we struggled to score enough rounders to secure a win.
So, the day concluded with two wins and two losses. A real day of two halves out there on the rounders pitch.
That emphatic victory against the Halifax Bees, built on a foundation of superb fielding, alongside our brilliant batting against New Farnley Foxes, highlighted the talent and teamwork within the Horsforth Hawks Red team.
We'll reflect and build on Sunday's performances, and come back even stronger in two weeks for the start of the new league season.
