Super Bowl news: Kansas City Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles – season review and head-to-head
Super Bowl LIX is just over a week away and sees the Philadelphia Eagles take on reigning champions the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans.
The Eagles booked their spot in the final by trouncing the Washington Commanders on Sunday before the Chiefs shaded an instant classic against the Buffalo Bills a day later.
While the Eagles will regard the February 9 showpiece as a chance to avenge their loss at Super Bowl LVII to the same opponents, the Chiefs are on the hunt for a third consecutive NFL crown.
Sports News Blitz writer Sam Condy reviews each team’s season and examines their overall head-to-head record.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles have made it to the Super Bowl four times, with two of those appearances coming in the last decade.
Despite boasting an illustrious history and a good play-offs record, showpiece success eluded Philadelphia until they defeated the New England Patriots in 2018’s Super Bowl LII.
Based on current form, things are looking extremely positive for the Eagles heading into Super Bowl LIX.
After a distinctly average regular season performance, they really turned up the heat during the play-offs.
Indeed, Philadelphia’s last game was their best offensive display of the campaign, flatlining the Commanders 55-23 in an NFC title beatdown.
Overcoming an airtight Chiefs defence will be a tough ask, but the challengers have certainly hit their stride at the perfect time.

Kansas City Chiefs
No team in recent history has been as dominant as the Chiefs.
They have cemented themselves as kings of the Super Bowl, making four appearances at the showpiece over the last decade and winning three of them.
Overall, Kansas City boast an impressive 4-2 Super Bowl record.
With that said, it is tricky to analyse the current Chiefs outfit. While they are clearly a good side, having topped the regular-season standings and survived a tough play-off run, they have also failed to establish any sort of dominance throughout the season.
Quite simply, too many wins have come courtesy of late-game coin-flips.
Despite that, the Chiefs’ offence finally got cooking against the Bills on Sunday, with Patrick Mahomes – who has looked off the pace this season – passing for a touchdown and rushing for two.
If Mahomes can carry that form into the Super Bowl, then the Eagles could find themselves in a spot of bother.

Head-to-head
The Chiefs and the Eagles have a long history of playing high-stakes games against each other, most memorably clashing at Super Bowl LVII in a match-up that saw the Chiefs emerge 38-35 winners.
Overall, the Chiefs hold the edge in the rivalry, having tasted victory six times in 11 meetings.
Gameweek 11 of the 2023 season saw the most recent game between the two franchises. After building up a healthy first-half lead, the Chiefs collapsed to hand the Eagles a 21-17 victory.
Both sides look drastically different this time around. Mahomes has a new supporting cast to spread the ball out to while the Eagles have an overhauled rushing attack that will hope to cause problems for their opponents at Super Bowl LIX.
