F1 news: Lewis Hamilton crashes in third day of testing with Ferrari
Lewis Hamilton crashed during his third day of testing with Ferrari during the team’s private test run in Barcelona.
Thankfully, he is believed to be okay, having walked out of the incident unharmed.
The action in Sunny Catalunya
Ferrari is currently running a three-day private test at the Spanish Grand Prix venue, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The session forms part of a Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) event, contributing towards the yearly 1,000km and four-day testing limit each team is allowed with race drivers in cars that are at least two years old.
Hamilton’s crash occurred on the second day of testing, resulting in significant damage to the car.
The Brit was behind the wheel of a modified version of the SF-23, Ferrari’s 2023 challenger, as he adapts to his new team.
The crash saw Hamilton hit the barriers, causing damage to the car’s suspension and aerodynamic bodywork.
His new team-mate, Charles Leclerc, was set to take over driving duties after the seven-time world champion, but the Monagasque’s session was delayed as Ferrari focused on repairing the SF-23.

A time of development
While some may be quick to criticize, this incident highlights exactly what testing is all about.
Hamilton himself has emphasized this in the past. Back in 2013, the Brit crashed in his first test session with Mercedes due to a brake failure.
Afterward, he shrugged it off, saying, “I’m just glad that firstly I’m safe and that it’s happened now, not when we’re in the season or something.
“This is what testing is about.
“It’s about getting through those development phases, errors or whatever they may be and working on them and that’s what the guys are doing.”
