Five unwanted records in Premier League history: Derby, Sunderland, Sheff Utd and more
Monday night saw Leicester City break an unwanted record, becoming the first team in English football history to lose eight home games in a row without scoring in the league.
You have to go all the way back to December 8, 2024, to find the last time the King Power Stadium celebrated a Leicester goal.
To put into perspective how long it has been since the Foxes have scored a goal at home in the Premier League, Gary O’Neil was still in charge of Wolves and Russell Martin was the head coach at Southampton.
Here, Sports News Blitz writer Dylan Richardson looks back at some of the other unwanted records in Premier League history.
Lowest points total in a Premier League season - Derby 2007/08 (11 points)
In 2007/08, Derby County got relegated from the Premier League with a record low total of 11 points in a single season, winning just once against Newcastle.
This is the record that many people think will never be broken, and it is not difficult to see why.
Southampton this season, for context, are on 10 points with seven games to go, so they could theoretically ‘beat’ this record, but it means they would have to go the rest of the campaign without picking up a single point.
The 2007/08 season also contributed to a joint-record that Derby share with Ipswich, Sunderland and Sheffield United.
Most team defeats in a row - Sunderland 2003-2005 (20)
Sunderland lost a pretty dismal 15 games in a row at the end of the 2002/03 season to confirm their relegation into the Championship, setting a new Premier League record for consecutive losses.
At least it couldn’t get much worse, right? Wrong. The Black Cats then lost the opening five games of the 2005/06 season upon promotion back into the Premier League, taking their total up to 20 Premier League losses in a row.
Even though they managed to eventually end their losing streak in a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion, the Black Cats once again got relegated, losing 29 games on the way to a 15-point season.

Most goals conceded in a Premier League season - Sheffield Utd 2023/24 (104)
Many will consider last season’s Sheffield United side as one of the worst in Premier League history, becoming the first team to concede over 100 goals in a single season.
The Blades finished the season on 16 points, but despite scoring 35 goals across the season, their 104 goals conceded meant they finished with a terrible goal difference of -69.
Sheffield United currently sit second in the Championship with their eyes on automatic promotion back into the top flight and will be looking for a better season than last time out.
Longest run without scoring - Crystal Palace 1994/95 (9)
Crystal Palace went nine matches without scoring in the 1994/95 season - a record that has not been threatened since, until now.
Not only have Leicester broken an English football record eight home games without a goal this season, but they have also gone eight league games in general without scoring, leaving the Foxes with another, unfortunately achievable record.
The Eagles got relegated in the 1994/95 season as the lowest scorers in the Premier League, netting 34 times, a total that both Leicester (25) and Southampton (23) don’t look like reaching.
Fewest clean sheets in a Premier League season - Sheffield Utd 2023/24 (1)
A record that will never be broken, surely.
With the 23/24 Sheffield United side being the worst team defensively in Premier League history, there is no surprise that they have popped up once again with an unwanted record.
The Blades kept an embarrassing one clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Brentford on December 9, 2023, conceding at least one goal in each of the other 37 matches over the season.
