Golf betting tips: Jordan Spieth to find form in home state at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson

The PGA Tour returns to Texas for the third time this year, ahead of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

The tournament takes place at TPC Craig Ranch, a relatively new course on tour.

Craig Ranch is known to score low, with the front nine especially accommodating to stringing together birdie after birdie.

Long drives, to set up easy approach shots, are the recipe for success here, so favouring those who can hit it long and drop it close will be a solid plan of action.

Here, Sports News Blitz’s Sam Condy breaks down four of the top picks ahead of the PGA’s visit to Texas.

Jordan Spieth

Byron Nelson is a tournament close to Spieth's heart; the multiple-time major champion made his first-ever start at this tournament way back in 2010.

Since its move to Craig Ranch, Spieth has recorded top-ten finishes in both 2021 and 2022.

The Texan also performs notoriously well in his home state, consistently placing high on Texas courses in his long professional career.

He may have long struggled for form, but Spieth tends to turn up when playing close to home.

Gary Woodland

Woodland’s March trip to Texas saw him pick up a second-place finish at the Houston Open.

His mammoth odds make him an enticing choice this week, especially considering Craig Ranch is a course that favours long drives and accurate approach play.

Woodland has been playing fantastic - yet slightly inconsistent - golf this season, and a return to form for the 2019 US Open winner is starting to look inevitable.

Keith Mitchell

Keith Mitchell has a chance to unleash his power around TPC Craig Ranch, a course where he has shown flashes of his best in previous outings.

Recent results include strong runs in Texas at both Houston and the Texas Open, plus a second-place finish at Corales - hinting that another big performance may be just around the corner.

Ranking 9th in Scoring Average and 18th in Birdie Average over the last three months, Mitchell looks well suited to a course that is renowned as a bit of a birdie-fest.

Best odds: 40/1 (6EW, 1/5) with Unibet

Sam Burns

Sam Burns is under pressure to find some form if he wants to stay in the Ryder Cup picture, especially considering the form players such as Daniel Berger and Tom Hoge have found in recent months.

He’s already proven he can go low in the Lone Star State, with six top-seven finishes in Texas, including a second-place finish at TPC Craig Ranch in 2022.

His recent outing at The Masters was less than impressive, however, he showed glimpses of his old self with a 13th-place finish at the RBC Heritage.

If he can get the flat stick on his side this week, he will find himself right back in the mix.

Best odds: 28/1 (8EW, 1/5) with Paddy Power
