Players Championship news: ‘More complete’ Rory McIlroy sizzles in Sawgrass play-off

Rory McIlroy claimed he is now a ‘more complete player’ after securing his second Players Championship title at TPC Sawgrass on Monday.

Northern Ireland star McIlroy made it a St Patrick’s Day to remember by seeing off JJ Spaun in a play-off on the famous US course.

The tournament was delayed by thunderstorms on Sunday, and both McIlroy and Spaun finished on 12 under after four rounds, with a lack of daylight causing a fifth day of play.

Ryder Cup hero McIlroy had too much class in the three-hole play-off for Spaun, who shot a triple bogey on the 17th hole.
