Golf betting tips: Sam Burns in with a shot at a third Valspar Championship title

The Players Championship has been and gone, with Rory Mcllroy crowned victor at Sawgrass after a Monday afternoon play-off round.

All eyes now turn to the Innisbrook Resort, as this year's Valspar Championship is set to tee off on Thursday.

Played on the infamous Copperhead course, Valspar is a notoriously tough challenge.

Widely regarded as one of the toughest courses on tour, putting form is of extreme importance with players often looking to salvage par after some devastatingly difficult approach play.

Here Sports News Blitz’s golf betting tipster Sam Condy reveals some of the top picks ahead of this week's PGA event.

Sam Burns

Putting is crucial at the Copperhead course. With its lengthy layout and tricky bunkers, finding form with the flat stick is a must and Sam Burns is one of the best Bermuda grass putters on tour.

It’s been an unfortunate year for Burns, he has failed to get off the mark, being cut at The Players, and his best finish of the year being T8 at The Sentry.

However, the American has proven he can do it at Valspar, being a two-time winner of the championship.

He may be an outside pick given his recent form, but his course knowledge and Bermuda expertise still put him very much in the conversation.

Best odds: 25/1 (8EW, 1/5) with Paddy Power

Alex Smalley

Smalley has flown under the radar through 2025. After a great week at The Players, Smalley has strung together four top 21 PGA performances in a row.

Ranking 23rd in SG: Tee to Green across the last three months, Smalley has proven he has the toolkit to navigate the unforgiving Copperhead course.

He certainly isn't a favourite, but with mammoth odds, the 28-year-old makes an appealing each-way punt.

Best odds: 40/1 (8EW, 1/5) with Sky Bet

Will Zalatoris

Zalatoris is another man who is a proven performer on Bermuda greens.

Zalatoris has cemented himself as an elite player over the past few years, with seven top-nine finishes in his last 10 US-based major appearances.

It will be his course debut, but the American performs well on Florida courses, with numerous top-10 finishes on events within the state lines.

Best odds: 25/1 (8EW, 1/5) with Paddy Power

Sepp Straka

Many people fancied Straka at last week’s Players Championship, and I was one of them. The Austrian played some fantastic golf last week but fizzled out on Sunday.

However, Straka’s pinpoint driving accuracy and SG: Tee to Green supremacy, are certainly a good look ahead of the Florida tournament.

Copperhead’s infamous snakepit stretch running from the 16th-18th holes has brutally thin landing zones, which could play into the hands of Straka if he can continue his deadly run of form with the big stick.

Best odds: 20/1 (8EW, 1/5) with William Hill
