Premier League betting tips: Everton vs Liverpool dominates derby weekend

The Bookie Basher is full of festive cheer ahead of this weekend’s feast of Premier League action which includes derbies on Meryseyside and in that there London town.

Arne Slot saw his Liverpool side’s relentless march clear at the top of the table halted by a goal-laden draw with Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United - and next up is a battle with arch rivals Everton, who stuck four goals past Wolves in midweek.

Manchester United will be looking to get back on track at Old Trafford, while in the capital we have lashings of London rivalry for Sports News Blitz’s top tipster to get stuck into…

Everton vs Liverpool

The Reds are now a shade of odds on to win the Premier League after a week spent downing Manchester City and drawing a thriller with Newcastle.

Glance at the table and you would say this should be a routine away win for Arne Slot and the boys, but Liverpool have actually only won one of their last seven visits to Goodison.

And that - you fancy - will be a comforting stat for the teams directly below them in the title race.

Expect the atmosphere to be bouncing for Goodison’s last ever derby game but the shrewd punt here could be ‘Under 2.5 goals’.

A mate of mine who is a blue reckons Sean Dyche has sucked the joy out of watching Everton, despite that 4-0 win over Wolves in midweek.

To be fair if it’s been s**t it’s at least been consistently s**t.

Their familiar issues in front of goal are an obvious problem, and if you had backed Under 2.5 goals in Everton’s last eight Premier League games, the bet would have copped six times.

As an aside, while these Merseyside giants are bang at it in the final ever Goodison derby, I will be conkers deep at my work Christmas party.

I have previous of course, so if I die this weekend, I would be grateful if someone reading this column would lie in my eulogy.

Tell people I could juggle and ride a bike with no hands. That type of thing. Cheers.

Suggested bet: ‘Under 2.5 goals’ at 5/4 (Betfair Sportsbook / Paddy Power)

Manchester United vs Nottingham Forest

Mad to think that Ruben Amorim is still 39. The suave Millennial has probably never heard 2 Legit 2 Quit by MC Hammer. Just let that sink in.

The Red Devils were brilliant against Everton, and Amorim even got a tune out of Marcus Rashford in that one.

They were well beaten against Arsenal on Wednesday but should find Forest an easier nut to crack, especially at home.

Indeed, since Erik ten Hag left the club, Manchester United have won five and drawn one of their six competitive games at HQ.

Forest’s record at Old Trafford is absolutely honking too, having failed to win there since 1994.

A 2-0 home win can be backed at a tantalising 8/1.

In the immortal words of Chas & Dave.... 'Gertcha'.

Suggested bet: Manchester United to win 2-0 at 8/1 (bet365/Hills)

Fulham vs Arsenal

I’m going to be real here. I don’t think I’ve really been the same since Wilko’s closed in my town centre. But I can still sniff out value and I reckon Emile Smith Rowe to score at bigger than 5/1 this weekend looks huge.

Smith Rowe rose through Arsenal’s academy and established himself as a first-team regular during the 2020/21 campaign of course, before dropping down the pecking order under Senor Arteta.

He has scored three goals in 13 Premier League matches for Fulham this season, and the 24-year-old will be busting to make a statement with a goal against his former club with Arteta watching on.

Remember that life is short, folks. So, spend as much time on the internet arguing with strangers about whether Bukayo Saka is truly world class as you can.

Suggested bet: Smith Rowe to score anytime at 11/2 (bet365)

Tottenham vs Chelsea

'Spursy' has become a description to sum up Tottenham's comedically inconsistent form in recent years.

An ability to snatch defeats from the jaws of victory, an ability to make their long-suffering supporters’ heads fall clean off due illogical capitulations and late dramas.

Their recent form has been mega erratic, but it would be just like them to galvanise and win this London derby.

Chelsea are second in the table, but still a whopping 14/1 to win the title. The Blues are making solid progress under Enzo Maresca, but have struggled in games against top-six sides.

Big Ange believes Spurs should look to improve their forward options in the coming transfer window, and to be fair the goals have been spread around for Spurs this season.

Brennan Johnson has scored six goals in the Premier League, and the Welshman can fire the Lilywhites to a big win here.

Suggested bet: Tottenham to win at 9/5 (Betfair Sportsbook / Paddy Power)
