Premier League betting tips: Newcastle to beat Aston Villa in a promising match-up, and Leicester City to extend horrendous record
The European action is heating up, but as is the race for a top-five Premier League finish, and Sports News Blitz’s Bookie Basher brings us his latest betting tips.
Full disclosure. I’ve just watched Alex Higgins’ 69 clearance against Jimmy White on YouTube, so I am revved up for whatever the Bank Holiday weekend throws at me.
Liverpool, who only need another six points to lock in the Premier League title, may have turned the title 'race' into a rather boring procession, but the battle for Champions League qualification is really hotting up, with Newcastle in the box seat.
Aston Villa vs Newcastle United
Big game this but Newcastle are absolutely f***ing flying and have won their last three Premier League games against Aston Villa, scoring at least three goals each time.
I’ll join any petition for Jacob Murphy to be called up for England, too. Not sure when he woke up and decided to become the best right winger in the world, but we are absolutely here for it.
Villa have been really consistent in recent weeks, but Newcastle look to be at the absolute peak of their powers, and 2/1 to win on Saturday looks huge.
Suggested Bet: Newcastle to win at 2/1 (Betfair Sportsbook/Paddy Power)
Ipswich Town vs Arsenal
The Gunners will have had worse weeks, having reached the semi-finals of the Champions League for only the third time after completing a 5-1 aggregate win over defending champions (and 15-time winners) Real Madrid on Wednesday night.
They came good for this column at 100/30 last weekend after drawing with Brentford but should be too spicy for poor Ipswich, who are cast adrift in the bottom three and shipping 2.1 goals a game on average in the league this season.
Suggester Bet: Arsenal to win & both teams to score at 9/4 (Skybet)

Leicester City vs Liverpool
Ready for a mad stat? The last time Leicester scored at the King Power, Joe Biden was President of the United States.
The Foxes have lost their last eight Premier League games at HQ without scoring a single goal, a record run in top-flight history.
Leicester are down among the sh*tmunchers, and despite not being bottom, relegation looks a formality, having shown no capacity for innovation or self-reliance.
Liverpool just need two wins to guarantee a second Premier League title, and 20th league title overall.
Bill Shankly once said, "Football is a simple game made complicated by people who should know better."
The same can be said of punting, so let’s keep things simple here and get on the 6/5 that Liverpool win this without conceding.
As an aside, if Sky Sports made a mute Jamie Carragher button and charged an extra £5 a month for it, they would make f***ing millions.
Suggested Bet: Liverpool to win to nil at 6/5 (Betfair Sportsbook/Paddy Power)
Tottenham vs Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest are so close to the Champions League they can actually smell it.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men sit fourth after 32 games, three points ahead of sixth-placed Chelsea.
Fifth or better, of course, is good enough for a Champions League golden ticket this season.
Big game on Monday night, and Forest's price looks tasty.
Big Ange Postecoglou has had more arguments with fans this season than Spurs have had Premier League wins, so I’m not sure why Forest are 13/8 underdogs here.
Yet as bearded rascal Alfred, Lord Tennyson, once mused, "Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do and die".
Suggested Bet: Nottingham Forest to win at 13/8 (General)
