Rory McIlroy’s Masters glory lands punter £25k
William Hill are reeling after one smart punter pulled off a pair of sensational spring trebles in the Masters, Grand National and William Hill Lincoln to walk away with a cool £25,548.74.
The Irish-based customer backed Rory McIlroy to win the Masters (6/1), Nick Rockett in the Grand National (20/1) and Godwinson in the William Hill Lincoln (14/1) in one £11.86 each-way win treble and also pulled off an £11.86 each-way place treble on McIlroy, Godwinson and this time Iroko in the National (9/1).
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Whilst single bets on Rory McIlroy to win the Masters have cost us well into seven figures, we’ve been stung by another bet featuring the superstar Northern Irishman. A very shrewd punter pulled off a bettor’s dream with McIlroy finally doing the business at Augusta, Nick Rockett landing the Grand National and Godwinson holding on in the dying strides to win the William Hill Lincoln.
“And that’s not all. The customer also placed a successful each-way place treble featuring McIlroy, Godwinson, and, in this bet, Iroko, all to place in their respective competitions. In total, the bettor has pulled off a pair of famous spring trebles and taken us for over £25,000. We simply have to take our hats off to the punter here – there’s nothing quite like backing the winner in three major spring sporting events!”
